Wedding-Belle (no longer) SinglesA Trio of 90's weddings in the summer of 2012
The nineties era saw three beautiful SUGCR weddings in the summer of 2012; Gill Codd, Hayley Morris and Fiona Addie. More than a handful of years have passed since we were at University, but the bond of the SUGCR friendships showed as we were invited to share in the celebrations on these fantastic days.
After what seemed like weeks of rain, cloud and grey weather, the sun finally arrived in perfect time for Gill and Josh to marry at Fischers, Baslow Hall in Derbyshire on May 25th. With temperatures reaching 30 degrees, guests swapped wellies for sunscreen and took advantage of the unusually hot day in this beautiful setting. The couple opted for a small wedding of 40 close family and friends. The wedding car (a beautifully restored 1964 Daimler V8) was kindly provided by SUGCR alumnus Stuart Wrigley. Immediately after the ceremony, as guests walked out to the gardens, the bells of St Annes church, Baslow were ringing. This was kindly organised by Pete and Judith McCoy and resulted in an SUGCR quarter peal of Plain Bob Minor (starring: Caroline Carter-Smith, Ben Newsam, Richard Farnsworth, Erica Oram, Chris Bennett and Pete). Following their honeymoon, Gill and Josh held a party at the Sports Club in Dore, Sheffield, where a number of bellringers joined the celebrations. Weather returning to normal (rain!), the BBQ was moved indoors, but the specially made "wedding-cake-icecream" was still enjoyed by all.
A month later, the sun still holding out, we saw the wedding of Hayley and Bob in Caversham, Reading on July 21st. A number of SUGCR guests took advantage of the occasion and stayed the whole weekend in the fantastic Crowne Plaza Hotel on the bank of the Thames, which was to hold the reception. We awoke to a bright and sunny wedding day morning. In typical SUGCR style guests chose to meet in the local pub, for a few celebratory drinks and some lunch before walking up to the beautiful church in Caversham. Hayley's extensive group of ringing friends from various locations provided some excellent ringing both before and after the wedding ceremony. They broke with tradition by exchanging the wedding car for a boat along the Thames which made for a fabulous and unique entrance and exit. At the reception there was a plentiful supply of wine, champagne and beer, and a DJ with an ability to meet any song request.
To complete the trio of weddings this summer, Friday 10th August saw Fiona and Nick married, sharing their special day with close family. The following day they held a blessing at St Marys church in Higham Ferrers, followed by a reception with more family and friends. Fiona managed what the previous two brides failed to achieve which was to ring the bells for her own wedding, even successfully climbing to the ringing chamber in full wedding dress – also ringing were Fiona's dad and SUGCR was represented well by Adrian Grant. The majority of the guests travelled from the church on a 1947 Daimler ex-London Bus to the Locomotive pub in Wellingborough – a favourite of the couple. Fiona and Nick had carefully selected three real-ales to be served in the evening along with the pub's already wide selection.
SUGCR wishes all couples every happiness in their future adventures together.
